THE BEST NEW IKEA PRODUCTS FOR 2023

Examining the new IKEA catalogue every year is a favourite pastime of mine. Even though IKEA has stopped publishing a yearly catalogue, I still spend an afternoon in January scouring the IKEA website for fabulous new products. This usually culminates in a visit to the store to see the new products and to purchase a few select items to bring home. I’m happy to say that this year, there are hundreds of beautiful and functional new products and dozens that I’m really excited about. In today’s post, The Best New IKEA Products For 2023, I’m sharing 24 of my personal favourites. I am not affiliated with IKEA in any way and all opinions expressed in this post are my own and unbiased.

PRODUCT AVAILABILITY

IKEA continues to experience some product shortages in 2023 as Covid-19 continues to impact manufacturing, shipping, and employment. However, product availability seems to have improved significantly compared with 2022. The shelves are pretty well stocked and the showroom is just as beautiful as ever. If the item you want is currently out of stock, don’t worry as most items will become available within weeks or months. You can sign up to receive stock notifications if you click on the “notify me” link. I find that this is the easiest way to get the IKEA item you’re looking for.

FURNITURE

All the products also have Amazon affiliate links. To buy from Amazon please click on the photos of each items.

IKEA can be hit and miss with their yearly furniture additions. This year was a little sparse on new pieces, however, I did find a few items that are worthy additions.

EKENASET ARMCHAIR

Kilanda Light Beige $279 CAD

If you like mid-century modern or modern furniture with a retro nod to the past, this chair may be for you. I love the warm tones of the wood and fabric and it’s quite comfortable. A pair of these chairs would look great in a family room or den opposite or ninety degrees from a sofa. A single chair would go well in a masculine bedroom as a reading chair, or you could add one to the corner of a home office for visitors. Additionally, this chair is priced very reasonably. Amazon has a very similar chair here if you like this style but don’t live near an IKEA.

VISKAFORS SOFA

Lejde Grey-Green, $2190 CAD

This new sofa has unique styling with its heavily rounded armrests and its vertical seams on the backrest and side rests. In the striking grey-green colour, it’s a bold addition to any room. I think it would work best in a large room, perhaps one with high ceilings. I can envision it with light oak floors and neutral walls and furnishings. Alternatively, it would look majestic in a study or library surrounded by vintage books, a Persian carpet, and velvet pillows. The price tag is significantly higher than most IKEA sofas. However, I noticed that several existing IKEA sofas have had a recent price increase of several hundred dollars. Hopefully, IKEA will retain some of its affordable sofa options.

TOLKNING NIGHTSTAND

Handmade Rattan, $159 CAD

This charming little nightstand reminds me of something that Anthropologie might sell. It has a relaxed Boho charm that would also suit a cottage or small farmhouse. Its petite style is best enjoyed in small spaces. I would combine this piece with an iron or painted wood bedframe and floral or check bedding. It looks like a fairly sturdy and well-made piece of furniture for a reasonable price. Amazon carries a similar-looking table here if you’d rather have the convenience of shopping from Amazon.

BILLY BOOKCASE WITH DRAWER

White finish, $130 CAD for 79.5″ height

The Billy Bookcase is a longtime IKEA fan favourite. This year, IKEA has added optional drawers. I am forever a fan of drawers on bookshelves because inevitably there are things we all need to keep stored behind closed doors. Drawers are great for board games, game controllers and cables, and extra decorative items like candles and vases. As with all Billy bookcases, the drawer front option is available in several different heights.

JAKOBSFORS COFFEE TABLE

Oak Veneer, $129 CAD

The light wood trend continues and this is a look that IKEA has always embraced given their Scandinavian heritage. This birch plywood and oak veneer coffee table is right on trend with its light wood tone and curved, sculptural lines. This item is one of the best bargains on the best new IKEA products for 2023. It would look equally at him in a modern setting or in a farmhouse or cottage-style home.

KALLAX SHELF UNIT WITH 4 INSERTS

White Stained Oak Effect, $209 CAD

I love this new addition to the Kallax shelving line. The new white oak look is right on trend and I love the addition of the doors on the lower level of the cubbies. I really wish that this item is available in a wood veneer rather than a foil finish which isn’t very durable or high-end looking up close. The Kallax shelves come in several configurations and sizes to fit any home. This is an affordable and stylish storage solution and would be good in a home office, family room, or child’s playroom. Alternatives to the IKEA Kallax storage cubbies can be found here.

LAMPS

20″ BLIDVADER TABLE LAMP

Off-white, Ceramic, $79.99 CAD

The Blidvader Table Lamp is a beautiful new addition to the IKEA lineup of lighting. It has a high-quality, higher-end look and is on trend with its textured base, gold accents, and linen shade. It’s sure to banish “The Dark Side” with its creamy tones and warm glow. It’s reasonably priced and a good value too. This is a great find if you want to update and modernize your living room or bedroom without redoing everything.

TEXTILES

BRONDEN LOW PILE RUG

Handmade Beige, 5’7” by 7’10”, $399.99 CAD

This new IKEA rug has a natural, organic feel that could fit into the decor of most homes. I found the lineup of new IKEA rugs to be somewhat lacking this year, but this one is a winner with its creamy tones and handmade appeal. A larger size is also available.

20″ JORDTISTEL CUSHION COVER

Grey-green, $12.99 CAD

One of my favourite things to purchase at IKEA is cushion covers and inserts. They are generally well-made and very affordable. The lovely green colour and textural look are on trend and would coordinate well with beige, cream, brown, grey, and black.

TUVSAV CUSHION COVER

Deep Green Floral Pattern, $7.99 CAD

This pillow cover is a bargain and reminds me of vintage wallpaper (think William Morris). It would be a welcome addition to a more traditional home or if you’re looking to create a Granny Chic look. You could combine it with other pillows in shades of green or gold drawn from the colours in this pattern. I think it would pair nicely with linen and/or velvet pillows.

SANELA CUSHION COVER

Light Beige, 16″ x 23″, $9.99 CAD

The Sanela Cushion Covers have long been a favourite of mine with their smooth velvet finish. IKEA has introduced a new rectangular shape at an affordable price. Where else can you find velvet pillows for under $10? It comes in several colours but I like this oatmeal colour. I typically mix and match 22″ square, 20″ square, and these rectangular-shaped cushions on a sofa. This pillow also looks good on a single chair. Be sure to check out IKEA’s other Sanela cushion covers.

ANGLATRUMPET DUVET COVER AND PILLOWCASES

Light Blue/Yellow Brown, Full/Queen, $44.99 CAD

I love the unexpected colour combination and retro vibes of this duvet set. It reminds me of the bedding one might see at a boutique hotel in a beach town (perhaps The June Motel?). I would use this as a summer bedding option or whenever you need a little dose of tropical inspiration. If it makes you smile, then why not add it to your home. IKEA duvets are always so affordably priced and this is no exception.

KLATTERKALLA DUVET COVER AND PILLOWCASE

White/Green, Full/Queen, $34.99 CAD

This is another charming and quirky bedding set that is new to IKEA this year. I like the white background, beautiful shades of green, and the leaf pattern. This would look fabulous in a teen’s room, especially if that teen is a nature enthusiast. It’s a huge bargain for this set that includes a pillowcase.

BASKETS AND STORAGE

TJABBIG BASKET, COTTON

Natural colour, 12″ size, $9.99 CAD

IKEA has come out with a series of these cotton rope baskets. We have several similar baskets at home and they are perfect for storing everything from laundry to towels to craft supplies (yarn and fabric). The smaller sizes make pretty tabletop display pieces, and the larger sizes are perfect on closet shelves or tucked into a corner or beside a chair. Such a deal for these beautiful 100% cotton baskets!

NIMM STORAGE BOX WITH LID

Grey/Green, $5.99 CAD

These storage boxes are a stylish way to store papers, family photos, and craft supplies. They come in two beautiful colours including this gorgeous grey-green colour. They also come in a larger size. If you have a family room or office with open shelving, these will make a pretty decorative addition while providing practical storage.

DECORATIVE ACCESSORIES AND DISHES

KRYPTUJA PLANT POT

Grey/Beige, 4.75″ height, $8.99 CAD

These gorgeous plant pots have a terra cotta look but in a more neutral brown colour that I adore. The texture on the outside of the pots adds interest and a rustic feel. They come in 3 sizes (medium size shown). They would be perfect for houseplants or porch/patio plants. As with all of IKEA’s plant pots, the price point is just right.

VATTENKRASSE WATERING CAN

Ivory/Gold, $11.99 CAD

The Vattenkrasse Watering Can is one of those charming items that just makes me smile. It’s a petite watering can that is full of style. I adore the creamy colour juxtaposed next to the glowing gold handle. This watering can is so pretty, I would leave it on display next to my collection of houseplants. Can you tell that I’m already envisioning this beauty in my home?

KORKEN BOTTLE SHAPED JAR

1.4 Litre Jar, $4.99 CAD

The Korken Bottle Shaped Jar is reminiscent of the milk jars that at one time were delivered to many households. They harken back to a simpler time before plastic and cellphones and the internet. For this reason, I think milk bottles will be on trend this year. It’s going to take a lot of willpower to stop myself from purchasing a case of these! They can be used in a decorative vignette featuring vintage items or as a flower vase. They can of course be used as a pretty and inventive way of serving beverages at the dining table. I think they would be particularly charming when filled with cucumber water, lemonade, or iced berry juice when dining outdoors.

SILVTJARN TOOTHBRUSH HOLDER

$7.99

I adore the new Silvtjarn line of glass bathroom accessories. They have a refined hotel-like appearance. You can also purchase a coordinating soap dispenser and glass container suitable for storing cotton balls or makeup pads.

OMBONAD GOBLET

Grey glass, $14.99/4 pack

I am always drawn to coloured glass and these IKEA Ombonad gobets are very pretty. I love the chunky stem and footing paired with the delicate glass. These are such a great price and would be perfect for sharing drinks with friends or big holiday gatherings around the dinner table.

MIRRORS AND WALL ART

HOVET MIRROR

Black, 30 3/4″ x 77 1/8″, $199.99 CAD

IKEA is always a good source for affordable mirrors and I love that their Hovel Mirror is now available with a black frame. The clean modern lines are refreshing. This mirror works as a dressing mirror or as a decorative mirror in a combination of 2 or 3 mirrors.

ALMAROD MIRROR

Black, 29 1/2″ x 66 7/8″, $219 CAD

I love the bold style of the new Almarod Mirror by IKEA. The black and gold combination is brilliant and I adore the ribbing on the outer frame. I’m sure Restoration Hardware carried a mirror very similar to this in the early 2000s. It comes in a few different sizes and shapes and it’s good value.

Skarig Wall Clock

Blue-black, 10 ¼” round, $16.99 CAD

IKEA is known for its spare, simple decor and those are two things I love in a clock design. This clock is beautiful and would look great in a kitchen or home office if you’re looking for a simple, modern clock. You can’t beat the price for such a stylish item.

CHILDREN’S LINE

IKEA has a wonderful new line of aquatic-themed children’s bedding, decor, and soft toys. The Blaingad line is very charming and made me wish my children were still young enough to enjoy such decor. This is just one example from this sweet line:

BLAVINGAD SOFT TOY WITH LED NIGHTLIGHT

Turquoise octopus/battery operated, $19.99 CAD

WHAT’S IN MY SHOPPING CART?

For the past two years, I have resolved to buy less in order to reduce clutter in our home and to be more environmentally conscious. We are at a stage in our lives where our home is fully furnished and downsizing is on the horizon as our children will start to head to university in the next year. We don’t need a lot of new things, however, I recognize that there is a huge demand for affordable furniture and decorative items for young people moving out and getting their first apartment or families purchasing their first home and growing their families. That’s why I create these posts. So, while my shopping cart may be nearly empty, everyone will have their own unique circumstances that dictate how full that shopping cart will be.

So, the items that I think we will need to purchase this year are the Kryptuja Plant Pot and the Vattenkrasse Watering Can. I have been growing my collection of houseplants and expanding the produce I grow in the summer, so these will come in handy. I love that I can pursue my gardening passion with such great style and affordability.

The two items that are on my “want but don’t need” list are the Blidvader Table Lamp and the Korken Bottle Shaped Jars. They are decorative items that I really want but would need to make space for by gifting or selling existing items in our home.
