Walking down the cleaning supply aisle in a grocery store and you’d think you need dozens of different cleaners plus multiple different gadgets and tools to properly clean your house. Sure, you could buy all that but why waste your money and space?
Even though there are different tasks for cleaning different rooms in the house, they all use the same basic cleaning supplies. By taking a few minutes to organize what supplies you have and filling in anything you’re missing, you’ll realize how little you actually need to be able to keep your home sparkly clean. With the supplies listed below, you’ll be able to clean your entire house.

Cleaning the House — What is a Moveable Cleaning Station?
Once you have your cleaning supplies, the next step is to set up a moveable cleaning station.
Basically, a moveable cleaning station is a container (preferably with a handle) that holds all the cleaning supplies you need to clean your home. This way, you can simply grab the bucket and bring it to whichever room you are currently cleaning.
No more looking for supplies in different areas of the home. Consolidating them into one location that can be moved will save you time and effort in cleaning.
How to Create a Moveable Cleaning Station:
Purchase a medium/large bucket with a handle. (I found ours in the broom aisle at Target a few years ago)
In the bucket, put everything highlighted in red above.
Think about how you clean your house — most likely, you are using the same products to clean almost every room in your house. If there are certain rooms you clean more frequently, consider creating a smaller cleaning station that can be grabbed quickly throughout the day. I suggest creating 1 main cleaning station and 1 smaller station if needed.
How this looks in our house:
I have 1 large cleaning bucket with the bulk of my cleaning supplies. It holds all the cleaners, rags, toilet bowl brush, gloves, etc. I use this cleaning bucket when I’m cleaning the majority of our house and it stays upstairs on the floor in our linen closet.
However, the kitchen gets a quick clean multiple times a day so I keep a second all-purpose cleaner and handful of rags in a cabinet for easy access.
Our larger cleaning tools (brooms, vacuums, steam mop) are in a broom cabinet in our kitchen, otherwise would be kept in the linen closet upstairs.
How to Store Extra Cleaning Supplies
Identify an area in your home that can store extra quantities of cleaning supplies. Since you won’t need to access this area as frequently, it can be a high cabinet or back of a closet.
With the exception of rags, do not keep multiples of the same item in your cleaning station otherwise it will quickly become overwhelming. Instead, keep any extra supplies in this designated area and refill your cleaning station as needed.
In our “storage area”, I keep the supplies to make our all-purpose cleaner, extra rags and sponges, large containers of baking soda and white vinegar (these 2 things can clean almost anything!), and any duplicate supplies I happen to have on hand.
I feel like Monica Geller when I say you should clean your cleaning supplies but it really does help! Organizing your supplies will only take a few minutes but have a lasting impact on the efficiency of your cleaning routine.
